Light Blue, Light Blue

We’ve heard it before… "having a white button down is essential to your closet." But I’m here today to tell you that this spring we’ve get to put a little twist on this classic trend. So like the classic white button down, you can also never go wrong with a light blue denim shirt!

As a stylist, one of the most versatile pieces I can recommend to my clients is a classic light blue button-up shirt. Its timeless appeal and endless styling possibilities make it a wardrobe essential for women of all ages and fashion sensibilities. Whether it's for a casual weekend brunch or a sophisticated office look, here are some tips to help you elevate your style game with this wardrobe staple.

Make it edgy with black jeans. Make it classic with white jeans. Make it slightly more on trend with the barrel jean. Wear it a little oversized. Wear it fitted. Make it you. Here are some ideas for finding the look you desire.

1. Play with Layers

Layering is key to creating depth and interest in an outfit. I encourage to layer a light blue button-up shirt under a sweater or a blazer for a polished and put-together look. You can experiment with different textures and colors to add visual appeal. For a casual vibe, a denim jacket or a cozy cardigan works wonders. A chambray button up under a blazer or cardigan is another way to style this color combination.

2. Mix and Match

The beauty of a light blue shirt lies in its versatility. It pairs seamlessly with a wide range of bottoms, from tailored trousers for a professional look to distressed jeans for a laid-back feel. Mix and match the shirt with skirts, shorts, or even over a dress for a stylish twist. Try it unbuttoned over a tank top with flats for a casual but put together look.

3. Accessorize Thoughtfully

Accessories can elevate any outfit from ordinary to extraordinary. I always love adding a statement necklace or a pair of bold earrings to jazz up a simple button-up shirt. Belts can also cinch the waist and add a touch of sophistication.

4. Experiment with Knots & Tucks

For a more relaxed and casual look, you can knot the button-up shirt at the waist. This styling trick adds a playful element to the outfit and works well with high-waisted bottoms like skirts or jeans. You can also leave a few buttons undone for a peek-a-boo effect. Pinterest is my favorite place to look for knot and tucking tutorials.

Are you going to give the blue button up a try this spring? I’ve collected my favorites all in one place for you to shop and am always on the look out for items that would be perfect for my clients. As a stylist, one of my favorite things to do is empower my clients to unleash their style potential, and the light blue shirt is a perfect canvas for their fashion creativity.
